Hi, I welcome any suggestions on the project I am working on. I have a large mahogany bookcase that I'm taking down and want to polish. The original finish was varnished. I'm trying to decide whether I should paint or just finish with varnish, shellac or polyurethane. After sanding, the wood should be sealed before applying the finish.

If you seal first, you won't be able to get dirty later.

Poly dries to a harder finish than varnish or shellac.

This project looks really good! I would love to see if you have completed refinishing your furniture. I agree with the previous posters on your questions. I am really interested in how you did it and how it turned out. I can’t really afford new furniture, so I have to keep it in the best shape possible as long as I can. I bought some furniture for my living room here https://paydaydeals.com.au/collections/living-room [paydaydeals.com.au] a long time ago, it is now beginning to show signs of how much time it has been in our home. Refinishing it sounds like a great solution to my problem. That is why I would really like to get an update on your project.
